Therapy provides a safe place to open up about daily concerns, to create plans for life improvements, and to explore the past and hopes for the future. I use a person-centered, integrative approach to therapy that is heavily influenced by motivational and cognitive behavioral therapies (e.g., DBT, Behavioral activation, motivational interviewing/enhancement).
In therapy, we will discuss the benefits of mindfulness, approaches to examining thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and strategies to increase self-acceptance and self-care. Though therapy is a serious endeavor, clients appreciate that I bring humor and light-heartedness into the room when appropriate. In addition, we touch base about how the sessions are going, so that when necessary, adjustments can be made.
I have worked with many adults and transitional aged youth who have experienced traumatic events and have come to therapy to change their use of tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, and other drugs.
I am a Licensed Psychologist in the states of Florida and Maryland and recently relocated from Baltimore, MD. I earned a PhD in Clinical Psychology and Behavioral Medicine from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and then worked at universities and medical centers associated with the University of Maryland.
I look forward to learning about and supporting you as I continue my career as a psychologist in Florida!
